Abstract

Driven by increasing urbanization, the worsening bane of road congestion and new advances in aircraft technology and electric propulsion, the time has now come for Urban Air Mobility as a new industry. We believe that technology and regulation will soon be mature enough to launch the first piloted Urban Air Mobility routes based on eVTOL. The key challenge now for drone manufacturers, operators and cites alike is to derive viable business models and to get public acceptance to bring first eVTOLs into operational service. Against this background different use cases for Urban Air Mobility as well as the hurdles that need to be overcome to launch a sustainable commercial service will be discussed.
